About Us

The Living Out Loud Health and Wellness Center opened in December 2014.

For many years, the LGBTQIA+ community in Southern Arizona has expressed a need for a one-stop wellness center focusing specifically on LGBTQIA+ needs. CODAC Health, Recovery & Wellness heard the community and developed Living Out Loud to be an affirming place for individuals, couples and families of all ages to focus on their own health.

Early in the process of developing this program, CODAC staff met with various stakeholders including Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, Wingspan and individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+ to learn, specifically, what they would like to see at Living Out Loud. Our programmatic design, workshops, support groups and events were all built out of this feedback and using evidence-based, best practice models of care.

Our name – Living Out Loud – was posed by Laurel-Heather Milden (a former CODAC employee who identifies as lesbian) and received the most positive votes in a community survey.  We like that it is vibrant and represents the energy of our Tucson LGBTQ population. We also believe it is healthy to for individuals to live “out” who they are and be proud of their identity.

In the fall of 2017, Living Out Loud transitioned from a fully integrated center to a program of CODAC due to funding realities. Living Out Loud continues to provide support, counseling and therapy to the LGBTQI+ community alongside CODAC's psychiatry and primary care services.
